The End Of The Live Act?
Hey,
So as i sit here listening to Encoder, Immersion, Ransom, Salt In The Wounds, Under The Waves, Vulture, Watercolour and an Un named track.
I do wonder, how is it possible for these guys to recreate this in there traditional guitar, bass, drums, synth envinronment.
Im really struggling to hear it, im sure they may find a way, or I wonder if its time for something new or the full band outfit will stay as is...
especially the time being invested in trying the new Ableton based Dj Sets...?
Can we expect a new live set up from Pendulum, what would you guys like to see?

I think there's gonna be some new versions for new songs... Compare orignal and live versions of HYC) They'll find a way))
...Fading Gently, Soaking through, Just Started Not to show at All...
...We reaching out and Into You, Nothing else Can't touch Me...
..."Many people hear that and say "Oh yeah, i like that nice catchy tune!"
It's not meant to be "Catchy", It's meant to sound like fucking apocalypse."
(c) Rob Swire about synth lead lines (FutureMusic Studio Interview)...

i was talking about this the other night, theres no way the live show is going,
And guitars are bloody versatile as theyr pretty close to a saw wave, which you can do a fucking lot with.
But the bass sounds are all much lower than a bass guitar can go this time round, salt in the wounds is a good example of this.
So i think there is room for a second ztar there doing bass, if they want to faithfully reproduce the songs.
But also ithink there will be live vip's as i cant see electro house being played live, especiallly from a drummers point of view.

Anything is possible with the live resources Pendulum have...as for the electro house tune being played live, what they'll probably do is have Kodish
hit a drum pad to trigger the kick sample if the actual kick drum on the kit isn't strong enough itself.

Aren't the sounds coming from the instruments processed in real time anyway? Going back to the point about the bass guitar not being low enough,
couldn't they just put it through whatever they put it through to make it how they want?

they already do this man, the whole show is done using triggers.
remember the badly mixed tarantula video that shoo up?
rob told us that it had "been mixed by and old skl engineer" who used the accoustic Kick and Snares, which "we dont use atall in the live show"

Oh, I thought they did use the snare, on the Brixton DVD I'm sure there are shots of Kodish using it

no they do hit the drums... but the faders arent turned up.
basically you put a skin over the top or a clip on the side that activates a trigger when it senses a hit... some drums even come with these built
into the drum skin (which is more likely in this case, as they have alot of money to throw at this show).
the most common use is for kick drums for metal bands, because it makes each hit 'click' instead of just becoming a bassy blur when the drummer is
going wild during a drop

Was that the Download video? (Can't remember exactly, but there was one festival video from the summer which wasn't good - the one where the bass
went peculiar & which Rob said did them no favours?) Do they actually take their full kit on a festival run, though - a lot of bands use a slightly
slimmed-down version of their stage gear just because of the practicalities of a festival set as opposed to a complete show.
To the point, though: the live show will stay. If anything, I'd expect them to get more adventurous with it - they've been doing it longer now and
they'll be more confident. Not to mention able to afford even more tech!
Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

yeah triggers are dead easy, im sure that they be hooked right into the muse receptors running reactor too.
and the muse receptors just get plugged straight into the multicore going up to the mixing desk

it is actually, i have engineered at multiple events where drummers have brought a sampler with them and insisted that i mix their triggered kick
rather than teh accoustic kick... and its easy, simple a 1/4inch jack straight into the mixing desk/snake switch on the sampler and connect its kick
channel to the kick drums trigger, turn up teh fader and away you go.
i swear your just set out to contradict me today... of course they will use a fucking ztar in the live show still.
