How Can We Improve And Advertise The PLC?

Hey,

I would like to know, as things have been quiet with the full band not touring, no new material apart from youtube clips and quite a wait till album 3.

How can we improve the PLC experience? Community? For you guys?

And how can we advertise the PLC better? (being realistic please)

For me i think one of the 2 best ways to advertise something are podcasts and youtube. But not sure if we can use them/set something up.

Thoughts please

Ash

This is probably going to get me hinned. But you can't advertise something people aren't interested in. The invention of google and ixquick and bing made finding things a piece of piss. When i signed up here back in 07, "pendulum forum" + search = this place.

If people WANT to find a place like this, then they'll look for it. Ollie has done all that is neccesary, by making it page 1 or 2 on google and getting you linked on the official.

Without pondering on it too much and sounding hypocritical, the kind of people fan sites collect remind me of Jeremy Clarkson taking the piss out of 'anoraks'. Oo, but that tune was using this and when X did Y, Z had a hissy fit and yadda yadda yadda. Same with every fan site / owners club etc.

I suppose the point i'm trying to make is that, unless something is happening that's worth discussing Re: Pendulums choons, no one will discuss anything unless it's self promotion or advice. And that in turn means, people will check once a month, less and less, to see if their's anything new, to post in that thread, then go back to whatever the fuck it is people do on the internet.

You really can't improve on something that isn't there, just wait for the 3rd album, basque in the new selection of people it brings, advertise like the clappers, when the hype dies down, rinse/repeat.

Me and you both know how much of a raving success all that street teaming did. Like, 4 people signing up PER gig we street teamed at. I've got to be honest, when they were getting more Radio 1 air time than any one man could shake a stick at, that was the peak of this places life span. Look at all the people who have been and gone. While the hype was rife we had a decent selection of heads and it was all sweet. That's not to say the people that post here now are a bunch of neanderthals, because they're/you're not. But until the 3rd album, they're the stragglers of In Silico.

This is, I'm afraid, pretty much borne out by my experience of forums.

To give you a general idea, I've been on Herzeleid.com, the biggest Rammstein board since 2001. This is now a massive forum as well as being the most reliable fansite around - it's huge and very well respected. But a lot of this came out of the webmaster's frustration at the band's utter lack of involvement with fans and their dire web resources - there literally was nowhere else to go. This isn't an issue with Pendulum, and the web itself has evolved massively since then (god, I'm old, aren't I?). Secondly, it's a busy board but this brings its own problems. There's a lot of politics, bitching, sniping and general asshattery over there - take a look and you'll quickly see what I mean. Having been a mod & an admin elsewhere, I wouldn't want to touch it with a bargepole in terms of running the place.

More generally, the biggest problem for forums isn't sign-ups, it's retaining active members from a wide group. Otherwise, you just end up with a core of twenty or so who all know everything the others are going to say, with the same in-jokes, and it gets stale and impossible for new sign-ups to engage in. This is what happened to the last place I was at: we tried everything we could, but ended up having to shut it down because it was just dead on its feet.

I know I'm still relatively new on here so my coming out with all this might seem out of place, but I really have done the frustration of trying to figure out how to keep a forum interesting - I'm not trying to be annoying, honest, but if there is any way I can help, let me know. :)

Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

I know this thread is pretty much dead, but I think that the site should broaden into a full on website. On the site you'd be able to post the main news, you can have pages for the list of live shows they played, a full discography on their release. These are the main things fans would really like to see.

Agree.
I still think there were huge missed opportunities in December during the Immersion tour to leaflet the queues about the PLC. Yes cost, I know but.........

For everything that could have been, well at least we took the ride....
